It can be difficult to get responses when cold emailing. My booking success rate for emails is almost zero, so I kind of rely on people contacting me first, so I’m not as booked up as I’d like to be.

Key Insights
Artists Pain Points: age restrictions, money restrictions, lack of competent equipment, time restraint, location, genre.
Venues Pain Points: artists don’t fit age group/restrictions, not being able to pay, lack of competent equipment, time restraints, location, genre specifics
process
We created an application that matches artist accounts and venue accounts based on: age, location, genre, portfolio, contact information, equipment and other factors (compensation, availability, length of set, etc.).
As the initial design phase continued, I made sure to base screen designs on feedback and findings from the user research.
We conducted two rounds of usability studies. Findings from the first study helped guide the designs from wireframes to mockups. The second study used a high-fidelity prototype and revealed what aspects of the mockups needed refining.

Being matched with an establishment sounds like a really great concept, especially because being a regular makes booking much less time consuming! I think making note of “can provide equipment” or “needs equipment provided” could be useful! Could also be helpful for the venues to leave ratings on the musicians, and vice versa! It would also be good for the musician to know an estimated number of attendees, if it’s private or public, and if it’s ticketed. Those are usually the questions I make sure to ask! For more nitpicky stuff, I’m not sure if this would be feasible, but my hourly rate and minimum music hours vary depending on how far the venue is from me, so having some way to display that could be nice!

If I had the app, it would be nice to have notifications that popped up on my phone to show available venues when the app matches me with them.
learnings: Emphasizing with the users helped us to provide them with a feasible solution.
next steps: Conduct another round of usability studies to validate whether the pain points users experienced have been effectively addressed.
